What

A Zippyjob is a one-time or part-time job or internship reserved exclusively for college students. Currently, Zippyjobs is only available to students at select colleges in the Washington, D.C. area.
Why
We Built Zippyjobs: The Problem with Financing Education?
If you’re like a lot of students, you’ve probably been frustrated by the lack of options available to you to make quick cash while you’re at school. The process is grueling and time consuming. Not only do you have to look for a job – which is difficult enough – many of you also have to do it in a city unfamiliar to you. Once you’ve found a job that might fit your schedule and interests, you have to fill out an application, a tedious process. Then you have to hope that someone actually looks at your application. If they do, you have to go to an interview, which means figuring out where the employer is located and how you can get there. Finally, if the interviews work out well, the employer tells you when you will work. But this could very likely conflict with your schedule, forcing you to turn down the job and start the process over. We built Zippyjobs to make things easier for you. We connect you with employers near your campus and give you options on how you earn your money. You can find a part-time job or a series of one time gigs that you can build around your schedule. We also help you get internships. Then we combine all that with Google Mapping to give you the tools you need to get a realistic idea of where the job is located. We help make your job search more efficient and more effective and we eliminate the need to pound the pavement. Sound good? We think so.
How does Zippyjobs work?
Employers post jobs to Zippyjobs. They can choose to target a specific college, or they can send the job post out to all of the students registered with Zippyjobs. They’ll be looking for one-time or part-time help or offering internships. An example might be a caterer who needs help with a big event; another might be a retailer who needs seasonal staff; still another might be a law practice that wants to give students the opportunity to gain experience in their field of interest by offering internships. By registering with Zippyjobs, students get access to all of these job posts. Because of the nature of the positions offered, the job posts will constantly change as jobs get filled, thereby staying fresh. After creating profiles, students will be able to easily and efficiently apply for multiple or repeat jobs when they want and need them. Employers will review the profiles and reach out to students who have expressed interest in similar opportunities. . It’s almost like a job lottery for college students.
What can Zippyjobs do for me?
Zippyjobs is designed to be your quick cash resource. Regardless of whether you want just enough money for the weekend, need a source of income for the entire semester, or are looking to gain experience through an internship, Zippyjobs can help you find the right fit. We let you take charge of your search by giving you the tools to stay in touch with friends and other job hunters on Zippyjobs, which allows you to get the feedback you need to find the right job.
Who
can work a Zippyjob?
Zippyjobs is currently available exclusively to students at twelve colleges in the Washington, D.C. area. This means if you’re an undergraduate or graduate student at one of these select schools, Zippyjobs is your job search website. You do, however, have to be at least 16 years old to be eligible to use Zippyjobs.
Who are the employers?
Anyone who has a job available can post on Zippyjobs. This means that you might find a post from a law office that needs admin help; a retailer that needs extra holiday staff; a restaurant that’s adding a location; a family that needs a tutor for their child; or a large PR firm that’s looking for an intern. The jobs are diverse and constantly changing and you’ll never lack for work or get bored with Zippyjobs.
What types of jobs can I expect?
Whatever someone is willing to pay a college student to do will be posted on Zippyjobs. For every major there’s a job and you can be sure that there is someone in need of your specialized skills. You may see jobs for tutoring someone’s child, walking someone’s dog, handing out flyers for a local business, or working part-time at a Fortune 500 company. All we ask is that it’s legal. Suspicious postings will be removed.

What
do I have to do to get a Zippyjob?
The process of obtaining a Zippyjob is free, fast and easy. First, review the Zippyjobs website to see if you find anything that interests you. Once you find a post you like, select the “apply” option to notify the employer that you are interested in the job. You can then forward your resume to the employer who posted the job. If your qualifications meet the specifications of the job post (i.e. if the position requires knowledge of Access or Excel, and you list knowledge of these tools on your profile), you will be contacted by the employer. Prior to accepting a job, be sure you understand the employer’s expectations and the exact nature of what it is you’re being asked to do. Find out the pertinent details, such as length of the job, wage, how you will be paid, directions, tools needed, and so on.
Hint: If you are really desperate to make quick cash, Zippyjobs recommends you consider applying for ALL jobs, not only the ones that pay the highest salaries. The higher paying positions can be a lot more competitive and may not come available as often. You may not make as much money with the lower paying jobs, but your chances of getting the job may be better – and as your experience grows, so will the number of jobs for which you qualify.
What should I bring to the job?
What you bring to the job will vary from employer to employer, but it never hurts to bring some enthusiasm and a positive attitude. Many people have gone on to better jobs because of the work ethic that they displayed in an entry level position. No one starts off as CEO, after all.
How do I get paid?
Payment for work done through the Zippyjobs website will be made directly to you by the employer. We encourage employers to pay students in cash, particularly when those employers are households. However, this is not always possible. Large companies or organizations, in particular, will also have large accounting departments that have to follow strict guidelines, in which case you will most likely be issued a check. If you are either unwilling or unable to accept a check, we recommend that you make this clear to the employer before you accept a job. Please use common sense when accepting checks and other forms of payment from employers.
It is standard practice for nearly all businesses (no matter how small) to pay their employees with checks. This is definitely true in the case of a part-time job or internship, but also true in certain circumstances with one-time jobs. In most cases, businesses cannot pay you immediately after you complete a job. In these cases, you will have no choice but to wait. Therefore, if for some reason you need immediate cash, do not work for any type of business unless the employer is able to make special arrangements for you.
Both employers and students are expected to adhere to the rate of pay that is offered at the time the job is listed on Zippyjobs. Any deviation from this rate must be agreed upon by both parties beforehand. Do not ask for more money than the rate posted by the employer. If a pay rate seems too low, do not apply for the job.
Are the jobs I find through Zippyjobs taxable?
Income earned through the Zippyjobs website is taxable. Sometimes, businesses may deduct taxes from paycheck. However, reporting this income to the government is your responsibility.
What if I have a problem with an employer?
Problems that arise between employers and students are generally the result of poor communication. Zippyjobs recommends discussing all concerns with the employer. If you still cannot clear up the miscommunication, we encourage you to contact the Zippyjobs website for advice and suggestions about your particular situation.
If you are working on a temporary or a specialized job, such as painting or carpentry, we recommend that you get your terms of payment and time commitment in writing.
If you have concerns about the way a Zippyjobs employer has treated you, please contact us as soon as possible. Your feedback is always encouraged and appreciated. Moreover, we want to ensure that students have safe experiences and are being treated well by their employers. Remember that the strength of Zippyjobs is the fact that employers know you can share your experiences with your friends. Everyone wants a good reputation with 125,000 college students.
How can I help promote Zippyjobs?
We built Zippyjobs for you. Therefore, we want you to give us feedback on ways we can meet your needs more effectively. We encourage you to share your Zippyjobs experiences with others. The bigger our family grows, the better we will be able to serve you.
What
happens if I can’t make it?
If, for some reason, you are unable to make it to the job, we ask that you contact the employer as soon as possible. Employers are generally understanding of student needs and are willing to work around your class schedule. Zippyjobs asks that you be considerate and on-time so that a relationship may be fostered for future students.
